Reverse the Curse

Tonight marks the start of the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. Wichita State does not play until Friday, due to their first round bye. The Shockers are the #2 seed in the tournament behind Northern Iowa, they are having one of the best seasons in school history, but they are still under the WSU Basketball curse.

Wichita State has a proud basketball tradition, with such players as Cleo Littleton, Dave Stallworth, Antoine Carr, and Xavier McDaniel; but WSU has only won two MVC Tournament titles, in 1985 and 1987. In other words, it has been 23 years since WSU's last MVC Tournament title.

This year's version of the Shockers have just a good of a chance as any other Shocker team in history of winning the title. They have a 23-8 record and have beaten every team in the tournament this season. The question still remains, can they win the big game when the chips are down, so to speak?

This year's MVC Tournament is Gregg Marshall's chance to separate himself from other good coaches in this program's history and stand out with a MVC Tournament championship. These opportunities do not come very often and this could be WSU best shot since 2006 to finally win the MVC. So again I ask, is this the year the Shockers can reverse the curse?

  1. I want WSU to win and get a bid to the NCAA tourney, but say they win, and get creamed the first round. Say they get 2nd, host North Carolina..AT HOME, in the NIT tourney...what do you think? I mean, I would love for them to go all the way, they have never won this tournament, but at least if they get 2nd, we get to see some awesome b-ball....food for thought :)
