Anchor Panel

Well. Thank you for throwing that cold water on my face.

I've never actually had much of a desire to be a news anchor of any kind, so it's not really saying much when I express that I still don't want to do that. But... I REALLY don't want to do that now. Ugh.

I think it's true that future sports anchors will have to continue to be jacks of all trades, shooting, writing, editing, producing all on their own. Haertl and Kobbe are, frankly, lucky still to be in the positions they are without having to do all that stuff. Strangely, I prefer the idea of having to do all that stuff, but I think that's just the environment I came up in.

But who can't appreciate their candor? Kobbe was fascinating, as unfiltered as any of the speakers we've had this semester (many of whom have also acknowledged the difficult climate for journalists, though not to the same degree). He's someone I'd like to hear a lot more from, as he has a very definite point of view. Also, his hands are huge.

It was nice to find out that these guys genuinely care about what they do (reading scores on-air excepted), because sometimes it's hard to tell when we just see them for a short time on television. But it makes me sad that it's so, so, so hard on them to keep it all up... where's the time really to enjoy what you're doing?
