How can I describe my reaction to Chris Fyre, Bruce Heartl, and Jim Kobbe... wow! This was definitely the most informative class session we've had yet. When you put Heartl and Kobbe in the same room you are bound to be amazed. These guys are two of the most legendary voices of the Wichita sports scene. They could go on for days about their stories over the last 20 years. In contrast, it was nice to hear from someone who is still wet behind the ears, so to speak, about his passion for the business.
It was amazing to hear from these guys about the transformation of the industry during their tenures in television. In contrast, it was equally disturbing to hear how they look at the same transitions in relation to how they feel it should be. Honestly, they made me feel cheated. I almost wish I was about ten or 15 years younger so I could experience the "good ole' days" of broadcasting.
I thought it was interesting to hear Bruce's and Jim's brutal honesty about their own downfalls as television journalists. They are not on the same page as Chris is because they don't have the same ability to be a one-man-band as Chris does. I do agree with Anita that guys like Bruce and Jim are a dying breed and I agree with Bruce that their days in television are numbered.
I did enjoy this class session the most of all of them so far and I wish we would have had more time with them. I think we should do something like this again.
