But I finally overcame my fear and checked out my standings. Turns out, everyone else did worse. I don't think anyone will really "win" a bracket pool this year. It will be whoever did less terrible.
Anyways, I did have West Virginia and Duke (ugh) in my Final Four and had 5 of the 8 teams left. Doesn't sound too good, but it was enough to put me in the lead in 2 of my 3 pools and I'm in the top-5 in the third. Never mind both of the Kansas teams disappointing me.
Surprisingly, the girl who has no idea what she is doing is a non-presence this year. Apparently these upsets were foolproof of anyone. Really, Butler in the Final Four? I guess we shouldn't be too surprised. They were a top-10 team in the pre-season and had won 20-plus games in a row coming in. Butler is legit, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating as a K-State fan.
Now I'm left wondering until November what would have happened if they would have only played a day later. Another day to rest K-State's weary legs from its double-overtime victory over Xavier. That was a draining win and it showed down the stretch of the Butler game. Play that game in neutral conditions and I say K-State wins that game more than it loses. But that doesn't matter now, isn't that what KU fans are saying about the UNI loss too?
We're all left to wonder about next year. For me, I am excited for the state of Kansas. We have two likely top-10 teams in the pre-season and Wichita State should be the favorite to win the Missouri Valley, which would likely lead to a top-25 appearance accompanying it. It's an exciting time to be a fan of a Kansas team. I just can't wait until November.
