KWCH

I had never been to a TV news station before last Thursday, so my idea of what I would see there was pretty far off. I imagined well-manicured, egotistical anchors looking down on the peons, those poor souls who ran around the newsroom looking for stories. I imagined serious meetings with heated debates over what was newsworthy and what was crap.

Instead, I got this: "Hey, I need to go back to listening to the scanner. It sounds like some guy went hunting and shot someone, instead of something." Laughs followed and so did jokes. You've got to be kidding me. This is what a TV newsroom is like?

Don't get me wrong, I love the sense of humor at KWCH; but I don't know if there was a serious person in that place.

As for CatchItKansas, I liked what those people had to say. They were very up front about how it all works and how much time it takes. They didn't put a polish on anything. I like that they know and truly have a passion for high school sports. They look to cover events that they enjoy that are also relevant to the website (i.e. Michael covering boxing).

Overall, the trip was very fun and shattered my idea of the work atmosphere at a news station. It also helped me develop a greater respect for what the people at CatchItKansas do.
