The Stanley Cup playoffs are kicking off and who knows about it, well really not a whole lot. Why, you might ask? One big part might be the fact that they do not have a contract with ESPN anymore, but that is another story for another day.
The truth is the NHL is one of the most exciting professional sports leagues in North America and for good reason. The Stanley Cup is probably the most difficult trophy to win in team sports because it is such a grind... four rounds, all best-of-seven, and not to mention one of the most intense sports in the world.
The NHL's two biggest stars are once again in the playoffs and they are bound to put on another great show, especially if they meet up in the Eastern Conference finals. Alexander Ovechkin and Sydney Crosby are the two most exciting players in the league and of course, the poster boys.
Ovechkin's team, the Washington Capitals are the #1 seed in the east and perhaps the most complete team in the NHL. Crosby's team, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the #4 seed in the east and the defending Cup champions. As a hockey fan, I want to see them square off in the Eastern Conference finals; that would be a heck of a series, to say the least.
This needs to be a great playoffs this year so the NHL will get back on the map along with the NFL and MLB. I'm looking forward to it and hopefully others will pay attention.
